She's a character, she has opinions.

Who Am I?

I’m like you. I get up each day, drink my coffee, and hope for the best. I go to the grocery store. I call my mom, my sister, and my husband. I play with my dog and go out with my friends and have fun. I vote, I give to charities, I take action. I forget to eat lunch, am impatient with my limitations, and sometimes am very scared. I go to bed each night and try to be thankful for everything I have and hopeful for the next day.

I’m a feminist, a social media buff, and an avid reader, writer, and knitter. I like live music, theater, musicals, museums, movies, and TV. I love watching football and follow the New England Patriots. You can blame Doug Flutie and the Miracle in Miami for my love of football. I like to cook but not to bake; I don’t really like cake and I love pie. I used to garden until my dog decided to help by picking vegetables which meant all my cucumbers that summer had little holes in them. She also dug up my blueberry bushes and we have no idea why.

I was a Davis Scholar at Wellesley College with a double major in English and Peace & Justice Studies. I have Multiple Sclerosis and a host of other chronic illnesses and dealing with them currently takes up most of my time. My career plans have currently been derailed by illness but I can only hope that someday I’ll be well enough to work again.

I’m a caretaker. I have no children of my own but several who call me “mom” anyway. Some of them ask me for help with their homework, others of them ask me very earnest questions about life and sexuality. My friends and family are hugely important to me and I make sure they know it.

I’m always searching for peace and balance, always wanting to feel as if I belong. I’ve found some places where I do.

See? I’m like you.
